Dewalt DW716 Review
Miter saws are one of the most versatile tools on any job site. They are used to precisely cut boards at angles that can form joints or trim work around windows or door frames.
The Dewalt DW716 is part of Dewalt’s 10-inch miter saw lineup with a 15 amp motor providing speeds up to 3,800 RPM for power cutting through all types of materials.
There is a quick-release detent override lever for easy and accurate blade changes and the miter saw can cut up to a 60-degree bevel and it extends out to 52″ so you can make cuts on large pieces of material with ease.
The DW716 also came with an electronically adjustable laser that makes precision cutting easy as all you have to do is position the laser dot where you want your cut to go, lock in those settings, and then cut.
It also feels like a machine you can rely on for any project in your future with its strong steel build that makes it feel like a tank. I have used other saws before but this one is definitely the most sturdy!

Features
- Good Motor and Blade performance
This Dewalt DW716 has a 15 amp motor with a maximum speed of 3800 RPM. The 12” blade provided by the manufacturer is a 12” carbide blade.
I was quite impressed by the powerful performance of the motor that allowed me to cut through a variety of materials.
Over the years, the motor has required little maintenance and maintained the same amount of performance, with its fast speeds ensuring improved productivity.
While the carbide blade provided by Dewalt was not the best, it was sufficient to get started on basic cuts on wood and other soft materials.
However, over the years, I was able to change the blade to cut through different materials, which was a buttery smooth experience thanks to the motor.
While I purchased this miter saw for my personal DIY projects, over time, I was able to utilize it for some heavy-duty projects that I was contracted for.
It met my expectations and ensured that as a professional, I was not sacrificing quality or speed while using this saw.
- Ideal for beginners and DIY enthusiasts
When I bought this miter saw from Dewalt, a few of my neighbors wanted to borrow it for some basic household projects. I was initially worried that they may not know how to use one.
However, I was surprised by just how quickly they were able to make use of it and get the job done. All they did was listen to the operating basics and read the manual, and they were good to go.
The miter gauge with 11 stop points allows users to quickly adjust angles on the blade, making angled cuts an easier and quicker task to complete. It also has a sliding fence that allows you to keep longer workpieces without losing accuracy while cutting.
As a beginner, you are more likely to injure yourself due to a lack of awareness while operating a miter saw.
However, with safety features like a blade guard and dust ports, Dewalt ensured that I had a safe and hygienic experience. However, the dust port could have been made bigger to allow for more efficient chip removal.
- Cutting performance
The Dewalt DW716 has a double bevel option, moving between 0° – 48° to the left and right. It also has a miter range of 0° – 50° to the left and right.
As someone who loves to experiment with my power tools, this miter saw from Dewalt was the perfect option thanks to the versatility it offered. The various bevel and miter angles allowed me to complete cuts like crosscuts and crown molding with ease.
I was also impressed by its crosscut capacity, which allowed me to cut a 10” board in a single pass. This helped me avoid having to buy a sliding miter saw for the odd occasion that needed such long cuts.
The horizontal handle gave a more natural feel while bringing the blade down on the workpiece.
This allowed for smoother cutting action and also prevented deviations from the actual cutting line. It also helped reduce my fatigue while operating the machine, which made it all the more enjoyable.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Does the DeWalt DW716 have a laser?
You can attach the laser to the DeWalt DW716 Milter Saw, but you have to buy it separately. This can help you in making accurate cuts.
What is the Difference between the DW715 and DW716?
The prior response from Graeme is correct. 716 is a double bevel and 715 is a single bevel. I don’t think there are any other differences besides the bevel although I cannot confirm this because I have never used the 715.
The single bevel tilts to one side and the double bevel tilts to either side as Graeme stated. The benefit of the double bevel is that you can make bevel cuts at any angle (within the saws bevel range) without having to flip and re-position your material.
With a single bevel saw, you can still make all the same cuts but since the saw only tilts one direction, you may have to measure and cut on the opposite side of the material in order to get the angle you want.
In other words, double bevel makes bevel cuts easier and faster. I’ve used my 716 for a few bevel cuts since I got it. Cuts like a dream and the bevel angles are very accurate. Hope this helps)
